Twisted Goob — Dandy's World Guide: Ranged Grab & How to Counter

Twisted Goob is a Rare-class Twisted in Dandy's World — the corrupted form of Goob, and one of the game's ranged attackers. He runs at 8 walk / 16 chase speed with a 3-second attention span — unremarkable stats — but his mechanic is the exception: he pulls any Toon in his line of sight with an extending arm, dragging you toward him before striking. The grab has a 12-second cooldown, and it fails if you leave his line of sight — ducking behind cover or outranging him cancels the pull. That makes him a line-of-sight boss: as long as you respect his sightlines and listen for his wind-up sound, he's manageable. In Blackouts he's genuinely dangerous, grabbing you from the darkness. The community also warns he looks nearly identical to his Toon counterpart from behind — getting close to a "Goob" that isn't moving like a player is how people get pulled.

Mechanics Explained

Twisted Goob's threat is the pull — a ranged grab that yanks you out of position.

The grab. When a Toon enters his line of sight, he extends his arm and pulls them toward him. The pull fails if the target leaves his line of sight — either by ducking behind cover or moving out of range. While using the ability, he's stalled for a few moments, which is both a vulnerability and a tool.

The counter-play loop. If you know you can't avoid detection, you can bait him: approach the edge of cover, let him see you, then duck back behind it. His grab misses (putting it on cooldown), and you get time to run away normally.

The wind-up tell. He has an audible wind-up sound before the grab. In Blackouts, where visual cues fail, listening for this sound is your primary defense. The "Spotted Visualizer" setting also gives a visual cue for his wind-up.

Invincibility-frame counters. His grab fails against Toons with invincibility frames — Goob's Toon counterpart, Scraps, and other dash/invincibility abilities can avoid the pull. Scraps can even grapple onto a Machine or Toon before being grabbed.

The aggro-redirect quirk. If a lower-Stealth Toon enters his line of sight while he's pulling someone, he'll ignore the pulled Toon and chase the new target instead — no melee attack on the original victim. Low-Stealth Toons can use this to rescue teammates.

How to Counter

Frequently Asked Questions

How do you counter Twisted Goob?

Respect his line of sight — his grab fails if you duck behind cover or outrange him. Listen for his wind-up sound, check corners before leaving cover, and bait his grab from cover's edge to put it on cooldown. In Blackouts, watch for his glowing eyes and use audio cues.

Can you dodge Twisted Goob's grab?

Yes — his grab fails if you leave his line of sight while he's pulling. Ducking behind cover or running out of his range cancels it. Invincibility-frame abilities (Scraps, dash abilities) also avoid the pull.

Why does Twisted Goob look like a regular Goob?

His design mirrors his Toon counterpart closely — you can accidentally get close thinking he's a player. Tell the difference: Twisted Goob moves much slower when wandering, has sharper claws, moves his head less, and his eyes glow in Blackouts.

What's the best Toon against Twisted Goob?

Scraps can grapple away before being grabbed; Goob's Toon counterpart and dash-ability Toons (Flutter, Rudie) avoid the pull with invincibility frames. Low-Stealth Toons can redirect his pull to save teammates. Any Toon can counter him with cover discipline.

How Research Works

Research is the unlock mechanic tied to Twisted encounters: each successful run against a Twisted fills a Research bar. At 100%, the corresponding Toon becomes unlockable (some at 50%). It's the core loop for unlocking Main Characters and higher-rarity Toons.
